My great dad is always encouraging me to write. "write little girl" he says. So tonight dad I am following your advice...time to put the million thoughts in my head on to this blank white canvas. Time to make art...if that's what you want to call it. (:
"Afraid of the Dark"
My name is Lauren, I'm 18, and I am afraid of the dark.
So at night I turn on the light in my closet, to avoid the rapid beating of my heart.
The glow from the bulb seems to soak up my fears that something will jump out and grab me
I pray that this light never goes out because I am far away from my family
Oh gosh it's getting dimmer, my fingers are getting darker, the wall is a shade of gray
I should have listened to my parents because they said this might happen someday.

So when I meet someone new I put up my shield, to avoid the breaking of my heart.
The hard, cold, protective shield seems to soak up all my emotions,
my heart shrinks, my feelings go numb,and my eyes are as vast as the ocean.
